A New Ritual for Yom Ha'atzmaut

May 6, 2016

In Israel, it is customary to observe Yom Ha’atzmaut outdoors, connecting to the land with a picnic or a hike. It is in this vein that we introduce a new ritual for Yom Ha’atzmaut, built around a picnic seder. Like other holidays when we have a seder, we include a haggadah in which Israel’s Declaration of Independence is the core text that guides the ritual. The Haggadat Ha'atzmaut divides Israel’s Declaration of Independence into seven sections, each including a candle in a seven branched menorah, a food with the appropriate blessings, a song matching the theme of the section, and a discussion of that theme. Supplementary materials are provided. We encourage you to try out the ritual and let us know what you think!

Everything you'll need is available at http://jewishrecon.org/resource/yh-seder. Be sure to read the instructions before downloading the components.
